3 Day Weather Forecast issured by the Meteorological Office at 0730 UTC, 7th March 1997.
A large area of high pressure centred to the south of New Zealand's south island extends a ridge across the Tasman Sea. As
this high moves away to the east an active cold front with swing eastwards across the reaion during the end of Friday and
early Saturday bringing rain and strong winds to the route. Winds are forecast to become westerly 25 - 30 knot by Sunday.
Currently the yachts are reaching under full sail in northwesterly winds of around 18 knots.
