BT Global Challenge - trophy winners

The 14 crews of the BT Global Challenge all embarked on the " world's toughest yacht race " with one trophy in mind, the Princess Royal Trophy, the prize for the overall winners.

Each leg winner would receive the Courtaulds Trophy, for the fastest time from one stopover to another, taking time penalties / redresses into consideration and therefore being first into the next port of call.

Alongside these trophies, there were a number of other awards given out in recognition of such things as safety, seamanship and sail repair ( to name only three ).

MUSTO LIMITED TROPHY

The trophy was awarded to the first Yacht to reach a line determined by the Race Committee between Hurst Castle on the mainland and Fort Albert on the Isle of Wight.

The ruling was that the trophy would not be given to a Yacht which had infringed a rule on the day of the start prior to reaching the line described. The moment of reaching the line was decided as if a yacht were finishing according to the IYRR definition except that a Yacht with a penalty obligation was not eligible for the trophy.

The trophy was awarded to and became the property of the Sponsor of the winning Yacht.
