BT GLOBAL CHALLENGE - NEW CREW MEMBER TO JOIN
PAUSE TO REMEMBER

Southampton (UK), Thursday 1st May 1997

New crew volunteers are busy packing their bags before flying out to Cape Town to meet their
fellow team members. All of them are excited to be taking on the challenge of sailing in the
penultimate leg, and yet apprehensive about joining their core crew members who have been
together for 7 months and have sailed some 19,000 miles. Over the next two days, we shall be
focusing on more newcomers to the BT Global Challenge.

Susan Craggs will be replacing Geraldine O'Connor on Pause to Remember. Susan is 44 and lives
and works in Ipswich, East Anglia. Susan only had three weeks notice that she had been selected
as a legger and although a keen amateur sailor, confessed to "not having done anything like this
before, I know it sounds corny but it really is the ultimate challenge. I have done lots of offshore
racing, but this is completely different."

She explains her last three weeks: "I had a phone call from The Challenge Business and it's been
manic ever since, getting everything ready, sorting out work, home and trying to work out to ensure
that I am fit as I possibly can be. The ethic of being on a charity boat feels great and I've had to
summon up enormous reserves of courage to ask people for assistance as sponsors, and in order
to get the kit I needed at such short notice. My local Debenhams store (Debenhams is one of the
main underwriting sponsors for Pause to Remember) have been fantastic, providing me with
several essential items and my local chandlers have been giving me discounts on everything and
chasing around their suppliers to order in other items in time."

Susan is not worried about being fit as she regularly works out in the gym, but she is however
concerned "that I won't be able to pull my weight and make a real contribution. They are all experts
and I am an enthusiastic amateur!"

With Susan - a qualified physiotherapist - joining the crew, Pause to Remember now has plenty of
medical expertise on board. She joins the fleet doctor Chris Price, veterinary surgeon Rebecca
Haynes and dental surgeon Henry Pritchard.

Pause to Remember is currently lying in 10th place overall after successfully arriving in Cape Town
in 13th position despite her boom breaking during the 6,300 mile leg from Sydney.
