BT Global Challenge Web Site Help

There are elements contained within the BT Global Challenge web site for which some people may require assistance. If this section doesn't answer your question, check your software's documentation or call your service provider. If you use BT Internet, America Online, Prodigy, or Compuserve, their help areas will address most technical issues you'll encounter.

Adjusting the Size of Your Browser Window

To get the most out of BT Global Challenge's web pages, adjust the size of your browser window. Point your cursor at the bottom right corner of the open browser window, and when it turns into an arrow, click and drag the window as wide as you choose.

About Navigation

At the bottom of every page in the BT Global Challenge, we've provided icons that allow you to activate useful tools that will serve you throughout this web site. The index icon will take you to a page that lists the entire site's contents. If you click on the home icon, you can return to the first page of the site from wherever you may be. Back and next will bring you to and from the ten BT Global Challenge web site's main section front pages. Feedback allows us to find out a little bit about who is visiting the web site, and search allows you to use key words to find exactly what you are looking for in one easy process.

Java

The Seafarer's Crossword uses Sun's Java programming language for real-time interaction. These Java applets were developed using the beta API supported by Netscape's browser on the following platforms: Windows 95, Windows NT, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, and SunOS 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 and Sun Solaris 2.3/2.4. Java support is coming for the Macintosh. If you are using a browser that doesn't support Java, you won't be able to view the Java applications.

VBScript

The Interactive Yacht Diagram uses the VBScript language which is only available in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

If you have a problem with the diagram being reloaded when the yacht is clicked - thus clearing the text - follow the steps below :

1. From the View menu, choose Options.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. In the section marked Temporary Internet Files, click on the button marked Settings.
4. Ensure that the Check for newer versions of stored pages is set to Every time you start Internet Explorer.
5. Click on OK.
6. Click on OK to exit the Options dialog.

VRML

To view the VRML files your browser must support VRML. You may need to install a plugin to achieve this. Plugins can be downloaded from a number of sources on the web. For example, The VRML Repository has links to sites from where plugins may be downloaded.

Viewing VRML is a processor intensive task. To view VRML files, we recommend a minimum spec of a Pentium PC (or equivalent) with 16M of memory. We also recommend using a monitor set to 16bit/High Colour mode or better.
