DAY TRIP TO SOUTHAMPTON

Dear Diary

On Thursday 19th September 15 people from Miss Price's and my class went to Southampton to see the yachts that are going on the BT Global Challenge around the world yacht race.

9.15 We were in the minibus and ready to go. We arrived at about 11.00am and went into BT Global Headquarters onto the sixth floor and a man called Adrian Rayson took us into a video room. We watched a short video from a round the world yacht race from 1994. Then we went into a computer room and looked at a computer that had the route on it. We went and had lunch on the 7th floor and then we went back into the video room and were given goody bags. We went into the computer room and Adrian took some photos of us. Then we went to see the yachts. We went on Group Four to look around. Then we got back onto the minibus and went home. We were over an hour late!

Day Trip to Southampton

On the 29th of September 1996, 14 ships will be leaving Southampton to race around the world. But they are going the wrong way (East to West) to make a it harder and more of a challenge. They are starting at Southampton and stopping at Rio de Janeiro, Wellington, Sydney, Capetown, Boston and finishing back at Southampton. What a challenge!

The boat I am supporting is "Pause to Remember". I talked to Adrian Rayson and we watched a video about Heath Insured. Four years ago someone fell over board and was never seen again. (He was thought to have drowned at sea).

BT Global Challenge -Poem

Crooked cooker rocking about,
Heaving waves waiting to crash,
A lot of equipment lying about,
Lovely sea, calm and still,
Lots of people walking beyond the
sea front,
Everyone having a good time,
No-one upset whole day
Guide telling us all about the race,

Ruth Hynam
