THE CHALLENGE BUSINESS is the organisation charged
with the responsibility for the running of the BT Global
Challenge 1996/97. This was as a direct result of setting
up and running the original British Steel Challenge
1992/93, the round the world yacht race billed as 'the
toughest yacht race ever'. The Company now operates other
adventurous and exciting programmes, as well as building
a new fleet for the Race 2000.

The Atlantic Rowing Race:
IntroductionIn 1966, Chay Blyth and a companion successfully rowed across the Atlantic in a open dory named the English Rose III. Thirty years on from this epic voyage Chay Blyth is offering keen adventurers the chance to join in a similar challenge, with the launch of the longest rowing race ever staged, "The Atlantic Rowing Race 1997"
The RouteThe Race will start from the Los Gigantes in Tenerife on Sunday 12 October 1997 and will finish 3000 nautical miles away and approximately 70 days later in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The TeamsApproximately 35 teams, comprising of two competitors in each team will take part, each racing in identical 24ft rowing boats, designed by boatbuilders Peter Rowsell and Philip Morrison. The chance to compete in a once in a lifetime adventure has appealed to many different people from all walks of life and nationalities, between the ages of 21 and 60.
