Quote from Sir Chay BlythI'm delighted to welcome all the BT Global Challenge yachts home, safe and sound, to Ocean Village and what a welcome they received. For some it has been a great Race, for others the greatest adventure of their lives. During the stopover in Boston, we held a seminar where two Crew Volunteers from each boat were invited to voice their thoughts about the Race. When asked the question, " Has the Race fully met your expectations and have you achieved what you wanted from it ? " to a man ( and woman ) they answered that it had and more; we were delighted. The Crew Volunteers, both core crew and leggers, have completed a fantastic achievement. Others are bound to follow their very courageous example. BT's huge efforts of supporting and promoting the Race have helped to make it an unequivocal success - a success in which everyone who was involved at whatever level and to whatever extent can take great pride. In addition the Yacht Sponsors and Business Club Members have worked very hard on achieving their objectives and seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed their involvement. From the viewpoint of the Race Organisers, we are thrilled with the way the Race has gone - it has been a fantastic time with four years of hard work rewarded when we saw the yachts coming back into Ocean Village. To all The Challenge Business Team who have worked on the event, they too can take pride in a job very, very well done. A very, very big thank you from me. However, time does not stand still and we are now focusing on the next Challenge Race in the year 2000. Many lessons have been learnt from this Race and we are moving forward with confidence to the World's Toughest Yacht Race 2000 / 2001. Sir Chay Blyth CBE BEM- CURRICULUM
