Are you prepared to take up the Challenge?
Nominated by Chay Blyth as the official charity of the BT
Global Challenge in 1993, Save the Children has been
working closely with participants of the race - crew
volunteers, yacht sponsors, business club members - to
raise money for children around the world. Save the
Children is delighted to announce that the fund-raising
target of £350,000 has been reached. With global
fund-raising activities to co-incide with the stop-overs
and the continuation of fundraising in the UK, Save the
Children is hoping to raise £500,000 by the end of 1997.

Fundraising activities
The commitment, enthusiasm and creativity of all those
involved in this massive fundraising effort has been
tremendous. Crew volunteers (BT leggers, yacht sponsor
leggers and all-the-way-rounders) have revealed their
fundraising flair on dry land by raising over £200,000
(and they are still at it) through a variety of
activities including go-karting, raffles, balls,
sponsored walks and bike rides as well as the more
unusual methods such as head shaving, alternative bungies
and sumo wrestling.
Sponsors too have embraced the challenge.
In particular, Commercial Union, Group 4 and Serco Group
plc have launched massive fundraising campaigns involving
staff, customers and suppliers. Group 4 organised a
successful 'Alternative Challenge' at their headquarters
raising over £25,000. Commercial Union employees in
branches around the country are competing with each other
to raise money. Commercial Union Head office has
generously agreed to march £ for £ to money raised by
employees. Serco Group plc have dedicated their yacht to
the Fund by calling it 'Save the Children'. The yacht is
forming the focal part of a year long international
fundraising campaign for Save the Children.
Other major fundraising activities include
the annual ball and the BT Global Challenge affinity card
which works like a credit card, except it raises money
for Save the Children each time you use it.
The money raised by the BT Global Challenge
participants will make a lasting difference to the lives
of children and their families all over the world.
