Southampton
Southampton, the start and finish point for this tough adventure, remains a focus of attention throughout, with the 24-hour watch maintained from Race Headquarters based in Southampton. Southampton is the focal point for many of the worlds biggest yacht race, and the headquarters of the BT Global Challenge fleet. The Royal Southampton Yacht Club, founded in 1875, has been central to the BT Global Challenge and Whitbread Round the World Races since moving from the city centre to its prestigious clubhouse premises overlooking the Marina in 1988. Southampton gave the Challenge fleet a glorious send-off, Ocean Village Marina being a hub of activity during start week festivities, entertainment including fireworks, laser show, bands and many more.
